Local Legends
A Small Town With a Big Story
Eastland's most unusual claim to fame starts with a horned toad. According to the legend, Old Rip survived decades sealed inside a courthouse cornerstone. The story became part of the town's identity, and a statue at Old Rip Park near the courthouse is worth a look.
For more of the county's past, visit the Eastland County Museum on South Seaman Street. Housed in a former bank building, it brings together local artifacts and changing exhibitions that tell the stories of Eastland and its neighboring communities.

Beyond Downtown
Trade the Square for Open Water
Make Lake Leon your outing when you want a change of scenery. The reservoir offers fishing and boating, with public boat ramps and a reputation for bass fishing.
Whether you're bringing fishing gear or planning to get out on the water, check current access conditions and any licenses needed before you go. Keep the day for the lake, then return to downtown for the evening.
